Mochrum is a small rural village situated some 16 miles south of Newton Stewart, a busy rural market town situated in the heart of Galloway. The village offers basic facilities with a wider range of shops and primary school available in nearby Port William, some 2 miles further south.

To reach Mochrum from Newton Stewart take the A714 road in a southerly direction signed for Wigtown, turn right onto the B7005 and follow this road to rejoin the A714 at the Bladnoch bridge. Follow this road to the sign for Port William and turn right onto the B7085. Continue along this road through the Village of Whauphill. Take a right turn at the sign for Mochrum and follow this road into the village.
