Newton Stewart is a busy rural market town, situated in the heart of Galloway, amidst some of the finest scenery in southern Scotland. The town centre is concentrated around the main street, which offers a good range of shops and supermarkets. Amenities also include a modern Health Centre, cottage Hospital, primary and high schools, churches, library, refurbished Cinema and the recently completed Merrick Leisure centre and pool. There are also excellent all weather tennis courts, indoor bowling rink and an 18 hole golf course within the town.

The area offers a wide variety of hill and country walks, cycle routes, nature and bird trails. It is also popular for fishing and other country pursuits.

The whole area has a lot to offer with a low crime rate and is well located for access to larger towns or cities (West) AYR 55 miles - GLASGOW 90 miles - (East) DUMFRIES 50 miles - CARLISLE 80 miles.

The area is attractive for both families and retired couples especially in light of the low crime rates.

Newton Stewart also has two primary schools and a secondary school, the Douglas Ewart High School.
