GAP are delighted to congratulate Galloway Forest Park on being awarded the prestigious designation as the First Dark Sky Park in the United Kingdom The Dark Sky Park was rated 23 out of 24, a gold tier status. The Forest Park covers 300 square miles of some of the least light-polluted sky in the UK.

This award highlights one of the benefits of living in this unspoilt area of South West Scotland- the dark skies that make astronomy a rewarding pursuit which compliments the area's wealth of outdoor pursuits such as walking, fishing, and cycling.

There are only 3 other Dark Sky Parks in the world- the other three are all in the U.S.A: Utah's Natural Bridges National Monument , Pennsylvania's Cherry Springs State Park and Ohio's Geauga Park.
